Marissa Gutiérrez-Vicario

Marissa (she/her) was the Founder and Executive Director of ARTE, which supported youth in amplifying their voices and organizing for human rights change through the visual arts. For nearly ten years, Marissa taught as an Adjunct Lecturer at the City College of New York, City University of New York. Marissa has previously served as the Soros Visiting Practitioner Chair at the School of Public Policy at Central European University in Vienna, Austria, and as an Artist-in-Residence at the Initiative for a Just Society at the Center for Contemporary Critical Thought at Columbia University.
Marissa holds an M.P.A. from the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University and an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Marissa is currently a Doctoral Fellow in the Art and Art Education department at Teachers College at Columbia University, researching ritualized art-making practices honoring migrant death in the U.S.-Mexico borderland.
