Ashley Dominguez
Ashley D. Domínguez is an assistant professor in Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies in the College of Education at the University of Arizona. Dr. Domínguez taught for seven years in K-12 public charter schools in Dallas, TX. Inspired by her Latinx students, she earned a Ph.D.in Learning, Literacies & Technologies at Arizona State University to advocate for youth voice and challenge traditional notions of power to include underrepresented and historically excluded young people in the co-construction of equitable education policies and practices. Her research interests encompass ethnographic and performance methodologies, critical theories, and the use of arts-based inquiry approaches with youth towards equity in social, educational, and artistic contexts. Most recently, her critical performance ethnographic study examines how Latina youth utilize art and performance to embody transformational resistance in pursuit of social justice. Her artistic work as a community theatre practitioner has led her to co-found and co-direct an arts-based youth participatory action research troupe that supports youth to conduct research, analyze data, and disseminate findings to audiences in K-12 schools and the community. Dr. Domínguez’s research has been supported by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s prestigious Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship Award. Her scholarship appears in the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, Educational Policy, Urban Education, and Journal of Latinos & Education.
