Improve your Russian-language skills and learn about human rights movements in Central Asia while engaging with the beautiful country of Kyrgyzstan! During this summer program in Central Asia, students will enjoy excursions in and around Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Highlights include a trip to Ala Archa National Park—a breathtaking reserve in the Tian Shan mountains and a four-day excursion to Lake Issyk-Kul, a stunning high-altitude lake famous for its crystal waters and mountain scenery.

Students will earn up to 9 credits on this program, choosing one set of language classes and one Human Rights class:

RSSS 101 + 102: Intensive Elementary Russian
RSSS 201 +202: Intensive Intermediate Russian
RSSS 301 + 302: Advanced Russian Grammar and Composition
RSSS 415/515: Topics in Russian Language
HRTS/RSSS 461/561: Human Rights in Eurasia


This program is offered on a rotating schedule along with programs in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
This program is offered in collaboration with the Department of Russian & Slavic Studies in the College of Humanities and the Human Rights Practice Program in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
